Kasey Tyge (Menahga Boys' Basketball)

By Kyle Gylsen - Menahga

The SportsCow.com Male Athlete of the Week is Kasey Tyge of the Menahga boys' basketball team

If good things are worth the wait, then we hope this honor is truly special for Kasey, his family and friends.

Tyge became the latest area athlete to go over 1,000 points in his career on Monday, March 7.  He reached the milestone in front of his home crowd as the Braves hosted Pillager in the first round of the Section 5A boys' basketball tournament.  Tyge needed 18 points going into game and he hit 1,000 with 13:22 remaining in the second half.  He finished with a game-high 24 as Menahga went on to defeat the Huskies 83-53.

"Kasey's role on this team is obviously to be one of our leaders," stated Braves' head coach Jeremy Nordick.  "We've got him at point guard most of the time and I really feel that he should be more of a small forward or a shooting guard, but Kasey is willing to do what's best for the team and that says a lot about him.

"Kasey has played a lot of minutes throughout his career.  Hhe played quite a bit as a freshman and has also been one of the cornerstones of our up-and-coming basketball program.  He's a guy that the guys really look to...to make that big shot down the stretch of games in tough situations and he's not one who is going to back down from anything.

"I'm very proud and honored to be Kasey's coach.  He's had an outstanding career as a Brave and deserves the recognition for the hard work and effort he's put in to be successful."

Tyge ended the season averaging 11.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.  His scoring average was second best on the team.  He also led the Braves with 71 assists, averaging 2.7 per game, and had a team-high 42 three-point baskets this season.

In an attempt to get to know our AOTWs a little better, we like to ask them a few questions about their likes/dislikes, etc. Here is how Kasey answered our questionaire:

What does this achievement (scoring 1,000 points) mean to you? It means a lot, It’s something I’ve dreamed about doing since I started playing in 4th grade.
