By Kyle Gylsen - Sebeka
The SportsCow.com Male Athlete of the Week is Paul Funk of the Sebeka boys' basketball team.
Funk was nominated primarily for his performance in the Trojans' Holiday Tournament on December 27 and 28. Sebeka defeated New York Mills 84-73 and Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 83-76 to win their first two games of the season and claim the championship.
In the two tourney games, Paul averaged 35 points per game and was 13-of-18 on his three-point attempts.
But his nomination also came about because of his increased role for the Trojans this season.
"Paul has been an outstanding player for the past three years," said Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist. "He is a great team player and this year has really had to be more aggressive on offense. He's the hardest working kid on the court and gives you his best effort in practice and in games."
Through the first 10 games this season, Funk leads the Trojans with a scoring average of 21.8 points per game and a total of 34 steals. He is also averaging 5.2 rebounds per game.
(Note: Paul has not yet returned his answers to our AOTW questionnaire. I will update this article when I receive that information. Paul was named AOTW after the baseball season last spring. You can read his answers to the questionnaire at that time in the list of archived AOTW articles.)
Congratulations to Paul Funk of Sebeka, the SportsCow.com Male Athlete of the Week.
