By Kyle Gylsen - Pequot Lakes
The SportsCow.com Female Athlete of the Week is Katie White of the Pequot Lakes softball team.
White, a sophomore, pitched a seven inning no-hitter against Aitkin on Monday, April 23, leading the Patriots to an 8-0 win. Since then, she has added two more victories, improving her record this spring to 6-0. Pequot Lakes has started the season 10-0.
In her six appearances, Katie has pitched 39 innings, allowing just 14 runs, only four of which were earned. She has given up 19 hits and nine walks, while striking out 46. Her ERA is 0.72.
At the plate, White is batting .586, with 17 hits, including five doubles and one homerun. She also has 10 RBI and four stolen bases. Defensively, she has not made an error so far this spring.
"Katie is a dedicated hard working player who loves softball," said Patriots' head coach Bret Sergent. "She is always looking to improve her game. She has taken pitching lessons in the Twin Cities and she played Dome ball last winter in St. Cloud. She has also thrown countless pitches, for many hours, to her dad.
"She is also respected and well-liked by her teammates, not only for her ability, but also her sense of humor. She is a joy to coach, because she is always asking questions about the game. She also works with our youth players in her down time-- what little there is."
We always like to try to get to know our AOTWs a little bit better by asking them a few "not too personal" questions. Here are some of Katie's answers to our questionnaire:
