A total of 90 athletes from around the state, including four from the SportCow.com coverage area competed in the 2014 State Clay Target Individual State Tournament on Saturday at the Minneapolis Gun Club in Prior Lake.
Each participant shot 100 rounds, with a perfect score being 100 points.
Gust Lundeen of Dassel-Cokato won the Individual title with a 99. Colton Sherman of Brandon-Evansville, Hunter Mielke of Monticello, Jona Friesen of Detroit Lakes and Tommy Mavenkamp of St. Michael-Albertville each tied for second with 98 points.
Tyler Gardner of Pillager was the top local finisher. He tied for 20th place with a score of 94. Aaron Rudquist of Menahga tied for 25th with a 93, David Schroeder of Pequot Lakes shot an 86 to finish in a tie for 69th place and Shane Sepin of Pine River-Backs placed 85th with 81 points.
A few other athletes from central Minnesota were also competing. Sam Goetsch of Alexandria (97) and Calvin Nodsle of Detroit Lakes (97) tied for 6th place, Tyler Floding of Alexandria (96) tied for 9th, Austin Yutrzenka of Alexandria (93) tied for 25th place, Andrew Rentschler of Alexandria (87) tied for 63rd and Ethan Franze of Battle Lake (86) tied for 69th place.
Buffalo won the team competition with a score of 489 out of a possible 500 total points.
