John Longie of Wadena has been named the 2014 Minnesota Person of the Year by Wrestling USA Magazine.
Longie, an advertising sales rep for KWAD/KNSP and Superstation K106, started broadcasting wrestling matches shortly after coming to Wadena in 1968.
At his first State wrestling tournament, John filed reports using a pay phone at Williams Arena. He began "full" coverage of the state tourney in 1969 and continued to do so every year through 2013.
He also covered hundreds of local dual meets, conference tournaments and post-season tournaments during his career.
John is a graduate of Minneapolis North High School, where he participated in wrestling for three seasons.
He and his wife Donna have three children, Kim, Chris and Amanda.
