Freshman Paige Myhre got two goals, including the game-winner as Park Rapids Area defeated Northern Lakes 3-2 Thursday night in Breezy Point.
The Lightning had a nearly 2-1 advantage in shots during the contest, but the Panthers’ sophomore netminder Julia Smith stopped 30 of the 32 shots that she faced.
The Panthers improved to 2-1, while the Lightning dropped to 0-2 in early season action.
Park Rapids Area took a 2-0 lead in the second period on a power play goal by Myrhe and an even strength tally by junior Tayah Otterness.
Senior Mariah Reed got Northern Lakes on the board with a power play goal coming with just over six minutes left in the period.
The Lightning got the equalizer when senior Carly Fyle scored less than two minutes into the third period.
But Myhre’s second goal of the game, coming with 3:36 remaining, proved to be the difference.
Senior Madison Galligan made 17 saves for Northern Lakes.
