The accolades continue to come for Minnesota State University Moorhead guard Jordan Riewer as the senior was named to the Daktronics Men's Basketball All-Central Region First Team on Friday.
It is the first all-region honor of Riewer's Dragon career and the first time an MSUM player has earned all-region honors since Alex Novak did in 2013.
The point guard from Staples is having a huge all-around season for MSUM (32-3), which opens NCAA tournament play on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Pittsburg State in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Riewer is the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Co-Player of the Year and was a five-time NSIC North Division Player of the Week. He was also named to the NSIC All-Tournament Team after helping MSUM reach the finals of that event last week.
Statistically, Riewer, who helped MSUM earn a share of the NSIC regular season title and also claim its second straight NSIC North Division crown, ranks amongst the best in the nation. He is the only player in the NCAA (D1, D2, D3) to be shooting at least 50 percent from field (52.1), 50 percent from 3-point range (51.6) and 90 percent from FT line (nation-best 95.0). His 51.6 percent three-point percentage is second in all of Division II, while he is third in the nation in assist to turnover ratio (3.67).
Riewer ranks fifth in the nation in total assists and is third in the NSIC at 5.6 per game. He is tied for sixth in the NSIC in scoring at 17.0 points per game.
Riewer has scored in double figures in 32 of MSUM's 35 games, including scoring 20 points or more nine times. He has 25 games with five assists or more.
Joining Riewer on the Central Region First Team are juniors Casey Schilling and Daniel Jansen, both from Augustana; senior Assem Marei from Minnesota State, Mankato; and junior Connor Beranek of Nebraska-Kearney.
The All-Central Region team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA).
As a result of being selected to the first team, Riewer now will be included on the ballot for All-American, which will be announced on March 23.
