The combination of pitching, hitting and improved depth should add up to good things for the Nevis baseball team this spring.
"We expect to have a solid year with several three-year letter winners coming back," stated Tigers' head coach Bill Dent.
Nevis will have 11 seniors and 8 starters returning from a 19-7 team in 2014.
Pitching should be a strength with Austin Becker (7-2), Gavin Becker (5-3) and Brett Byer (5-1) all back.
Transfer student Kevin Hale will also get into the rotation as a hard throwing, right-handed relief pitcher.
Nevis will also be a very good hitting team led by Austin Becker, who had a .520 batting average last season and was named Northland Conference MVP.
Gavin Becker, Victor Mastley, Gavin Hitchcock and Andrew Dudley contributed to a 2014 team batting average of .345.
Seniors Phil Moore, Spencer Stack, Dustin McGee and Tristan Murchie will be backing up the starters, while several underclassmen will be used as role players.
(We) will have better depth than in past seasons," Dent said.
Nevis finished 4th in the section last season, losing to Frazee twice.
"We hope to improve on our playoff run and get into the section finals," Dent added.
