Jordyn Glenz (Verndale Volleyball)

By Kyle Gylsen - Verndale

The Female Athlete of the Week is Jordyn Glenz of the Verndale volleyball team.

Glenz made Verndale school history recently when she recorded the 1,000th kill of her career on Saturday, September 26 during the Class A Showcase Tournament  in Burnsville.

That makes her the first players in the history of Pirates’ volleyball to achieve the benchmark of having 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.

Jordyn has been a starting middle hitter/middle back player for Verndale since 8th grade. She currently has 1,380 career digs, which has also passed the previous school record.

“That is a major accomplishment considering she is at the net blocking half of the rotation and also has 320 career blocks,” said Pirates’ head coach Shelley Glenz, who is also Jordyn’s mother.

Jordyn's main strength is certainly her defensive play regardless of her 5'8" frame.  Offensively, she is known for her amazing ability to hit or tip around the block, finding the holes on the opposing side of the court.  Jordyn is not only a powerful hitter, but a smart hitter, resulting in a hitting percentage of 35.9% this season.

“Jordyn is an exceptionally unselfish leader both on and off the court, which she has especially demonstrated this season,” stated Coach Glenz.  “I am so proud of Jordyn for placing her team before herself this season, as she has sacrificed some of her back row play to strengthen her front row play.  She understands the true importance of sacrificing for her team.  Jordyn is always encouraging her younger sisters and dedicated to helping them succeed as players as well.”

Not only is Glenz a dedicated player as a three sport athlete, but she is also a dedicated student as well, maintaining a 4.0 GPA.  Jordyn is also involved in several school activities in addition to church activities, including mission trips and youth group.

“Most importantly, Jordyn is a great person who is always thinking of others before herself and is always willing to take the back seat so others can succeed,” Coach Glenz added.

In an effort to better get to know some of our area athletes, we always ask our AOTWs to fill out a short questionnaire.  Here are Jordyn’s answers:
