The Nevis boys’ basketball program is coming off a season that ended in a first-ever appearance at the state boys’ basketball tournament.
The Tigers returning two starters from last year's squad.
Junior Griffin Chase and freshman Michael Landquist both return at guards, while the rest of the lineup will be filled with underclassmen.
“We lose Gavin Becker, Courtland Chase, Kevin Hale and Brett Byer from last year's team that won the Northland Conference and also was the Section 5A champion,” said Tigers’ head coach Scott Kramer.
“We will be a young team this year, with our top eight players all being underclassmen.”
Filling out the starting lineup are junior Andrew Dudley, along with sophomores Jack Landquist and Tom Wormley.
Sophomores Zach Henry, Jack Dewulf and Caden Kramer will be coming off of the bench for the Tigers.
“Our conference will again be very competitive,” Kramer added.
Last season Red Lake and Nevis were co-champs and both appeared at the state tournament, with Warriors winning the Section 8A title.
According to Kramer, Nevis and Red Lake will be joined by Cass Lake-Bena and Pine River-Backus as the teams to beat this year in the Northland Conference.
In section play, Pine River-Backus and Nevis will be the teams to beat in the north and Browerville/Eagle Valley will be the favorite in the south.
