Pancakes and Playoffs
Do you ever have something just stuck in your head? Maybe it's a song...a sound...or a taste! Oh yes! About 10 days ago I started thinking about pancakes. The smell of pancakes, the melting butter, the drizzle of syrup...ooooohhhhhh pancakes!

I thought about them alot. I had thought of going to a restaurant for my pancakes, but I just had not got around to it. Then the other night...Dee made me pancakes. It was great! Everything I had been thinking about...the smell, the sounds, the pancakes...it was a perfect meal. Sometimes things just work out the way you think they will.

I went three for four last weekend during the NFL playoffs, missing the Philly-Chicago game. And although Philadelphia looked good, I believe the Rams are the better team. Steelers vs. Rams in Superbowl XXXVI. The snowy night in New England was interesting. It's the kind of game you like to watch when you don't care who wins.

Minnesota fans are hanging their hat on the U of M women and the Timberwolves. Both continue to play very well.

The Wadena-Deer Creek girls' hockey program suffered a loss last week when head coach Chad Swanson resigned. Chad certainly had his hands full trying to develop a new program at W-DC. Hats off to him for a job well done and thanks Chad, for all the help you gave me along the way as well!

The Staples-Motley youth movement accomplished a couple things last week. The Cardinals got two wins and their bench got much stronger. Lynn Peterson continues to make quality adjustments and gets a lot of mileage from his kids.

Time to go...Noah wants me to school him in a video game!

From the Piehole: I like the parity that keeps the NFL teams close. We really could see a different winner each year...is baseball and basketball watching?! Wadena Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot will be held Saturday, January 26 for boys and girls ages 8-13 at the W-DC high school gym.

Remember: Make the most of what comes and the least of what goes!

Big Sports, Big Buck
O.K. here we go again. Just when Major League Baseball gets done giving us their best evidence that they are losing money and they don't know where to turn...when the NFL and baseball have turned to us for the new stadiums that they need to survive...they have taken out the shotgun, placed it firmly on their foot and...BLAM...BLAM, BLAM! Parts missing!

Baseball: Give me a break. Giants home run king Barry Bonds gets a 5-year deal worth $90-million. May I say unworthy $90-million? Sure, Bonds hit 73 home runs in 2001, but he's 37 years old. Do the math. He will be 42 when this thing ends. He'll be hitting .217, plunking 10 home runs and insisting he's just in a slump. Oh, and he says if he starts to fade, he will go away quietly. There is nothing quiet about $90-million!

Even the Enron accountants couldn't have birthed this ugly child! Whatever Major League Baseball tells us from now on is CRAP!

Steve Spurrier got his wish when the Washington Redskins spent $7.3 million to open a spot and make him their head coach. Bad enough. Then they spent $25 million over the next five years on a guy who has never coached a down in the NFL. Do the 'Skins realize Steve will have to coach the players that show up in July and he will not be able to go out and recruit talent from around the league? Maybe they are called the Redskins, not because they are politically incorrect, but because they are embarrassed by the way they throw money around.

Could it be the NFL is also full of CRAP?!

From the Pie Hole: In 2002, let's get rid of the Tomahawk chop, football coaches getting doused with Gatorade, NBA mascots who use a springboard to dunk and singers who lip-synch the Star Spangled Banner.

Remember: Success is not forever and failure isn't fatal.

Goodbye Scarecrow
Is it my imagination or does it seem like the Minnesota Vikings have already improved since Thursday?!

I have never trried to hide my dislike for Dennis Green as the head coach of the Vikings and I never tried to hide my pleasure when he was asked to resign last week.

I do wish Red (McCombs) would have just fired him and not sent him packing with over $4 million. I wish the media {and I relize this is just a wish} would not have gone to his press conference to wish him goodbye and good luck.

There is Dennis telling us how if we are looking for him in the futur5e look on the high road, 'cause that's where he will always be.

No Dennis, you will always be at the buffet.

You will always be near the prettiest women in the office.

You will always be remembered for not having control of possibly the best team in the NFL!

You should have been fired when an average Giants team thumped us 41-0!

High road, low road...don't worry Dennis, I won't be looking for you at all.

Let's hope we get a motivator this time around. Someone who can keep the million dollar boys in line and get them to play! Someone who moves on the sideline, who talks to other coaches and players and doesn't just stare at the megatron! Goodbye Scarecrow!

From the Pie Hole: Ron Gardenhire to manage the Twins...let's hope there is a season. Some big surprises last week in high school sports and some big matchups this week. Check your schedules and head out to watch some high school action!

Remember: Why can't life's problems come when we are 20 and know everything!

The next home card for the Wadena Golden Gloves boxing will be held on Saturday, January 12.

From the Pie Hole: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Look for Pittsburgh and the Rams in the Super Bowl.

Could we have one more Bowl Game?!

Remember: If you can't do it with feeling...don't.
