Wolves Out, Winter In
70 and sunny! Is that too much to ask? I am trying to get over it, but the endless "hanging on" of winter has brought several others over to my side of belly-aching! So I once again have new reason to shake my fist at winter. And you are right...it doesn't help at all!

The Timber-puppies have left the NBA playoffs in the first round for the sixth straight year. At least this year they were ousted by a very fine team from Dallas. The Mavericks have about six guys that like to score and they all showed up in the three games they had with the T-Wolves. Minnesota is so close to being a dangerous team and considering what they have survived the last three years, they have actually done pretty well!

However, the NBA should fix it's playoff format to move ahead faster. Yes, television has locked into the post season and it is all scheduled around what television wants. It should not have taken over a week to get three games played in the opening round. Fans lose interest. The NHL goes faster but allows too many teams into the playoffs. If they want fans to stick around, they have to get on with it. End the playoffs before summer gets here.

The Twins will be OK. I still think they will win the Central Division. They will become very tough when the starting pitching gets on the same page as everyone else.

A lot of delays for the high school teams this spring. Maybe May will be better?!

From the Piehole: The MSHSL is on the right track, after they changed the rules for kids that want to transfer for sports reasons.

Writing In The Winter Wonderland
It's April 21st. It has been snowing all day. I will try to be happy at work this week, but it is April 21st and it is snowing. Oh, I know it will go away, but it is APRIL 21st!.

How about those Twins?! They win their fourth in a row and have won 8 of their last 10. They sweep Cleveland with the bottom side of their pitching staff. They are back in first place.

And how about those Montreal Expos?! After winning their third in a row, they too have jumped to first place in the National League East.

There, Bud "The Nazi" Selig, put that in your contractive pipe and try to get it lit! Minnesota and Montreal in first place...(It would be) too cool if Bud would have to sit and watch the Twins and the Expos duke it out at a fan-packed World Series!

I know it would not eliminate the need for a stadium with modern revenue streams, but it would do me good to see Bud eat his words.

Meanwhile Dallas beats the T-Wolves in game one of the NBA playoffs. The Wolves missed alot of chances in the second half. Dirk Nowitzki paced Dallas with 30. They don't play again until Wednesday.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr. led for 133 laps and won for the second straight year at Talladega. This was the first win of the year for Chevy.

Until next week...keep the snow shovel handy...don't punch anyone at work....think happy thoughts....really, this too will pass!

From the Piehole: This weather sucks to the maximum. Why do I live where there is winter?

Remember: The only reason I would take up exercise is so I could hear heavy breathing again.

Lazy, Hazy Daze Of Summer
Finally! Winter 2001-2002 is over! Today my wife Dee and I took a walk in sunshine and 70 degree temperatures. It was wonderful. The older I get the less I like winter.

Now that the cows are birthing, we have hit sunny and 70, it's daylight until 8:30 p.m. and I can sweat while working, without a coat on...It's summer.

Tiger Woods wins his third Masters this week. The Twins are playing good baseball. The Vikings are gearing up for this fall. And the Timberwolves are in the playoffs.

Soon the Amateur Baseball Leagues will start their push to late August and the State Tournament. I have not seen any schedules yet. However, I did hear that some teams would be moving around some this year. It's time to promise yourself, that around everything else you will be doing this spring and summer, you will attend some high school spring sports and will take in some baseball this summer!

It's time to clean up the grill, hang the hammock, and make sure you have a constant supply of golden yummie in the ice box! It's Summer!

From the pie Hole: As I age I get softer. I attended the Wadena-Deer Creek girls' basketball season-ender the other night. I tried to get up and talk about a group of young ladies that I had a lot of respect for...and couldn't do it. I turned into a blubbering idiot and sat down. Thanks girls for some great memories!

Remember: The Eiffel Tower is the Empire State Building after taxes.

Winter Sucks!
Winter now sucks! Kyle has taken a week of vacation from his duties at KWAD-KNSP-KKWS. He chose a good week to be gone, because when I woke up to the snow Monday...I had had enough!

I know winter was mild. I know Mother Nature does this every spring, but it is April.

Kyle knows how I can become a problem when we have long stretches of cold weather. Well, he got to dodge this bout of Me vs. Mamma Nature.

And guess what I will win. When Nature gives in and lets us have sunshine and 70...I'll still be here. So bring it on you old wind bag, I can take it...

I just don't know if my co-workers can.

Meanwhile, good for you Brenda Oldfield. She came to Minnesota, did her job, did it well and now is moving on. I know she had a contract, but let's face it, contracts in major sports are about as good as penny....nice to have, not much value!

Maryland womens' basketball needs help. I think Oldfield will get it done. And the Gophers will find a replacement. The Blue chip players from Minnesota will still consider the U to continue their education and athletics.

I enjoyed her energy and I hope some other coaches were watching. I also know that any one of you given the opportunity to help yourselves would do just that. The problem I have is when a coach should move on or retire and doesn't! What are we suppossed to do with that?

Anyway...Brenda, from someone who didn't know anything about Gopher Womens' Basketball...you turned the light on for me...Job well done!

From the piehole: Too much winter...not much spring sports yet! I may need to head for the basement...Fetal position, thumb sucking, etc.

Remember: Patience is something you admire greatly in the driver behind you, but not in the one ahead of you.
