Boy, Was I Wrong!!
I thought either the Lakers or the Timberwolves would crush anything that came out of the NBA Eastern Conference. Then came Detroit with its swarming defense, good shooters, and great team efforts. I was wrong!
I thought Calgary would win the NHL Stanley Cup, just because it is a bad idea to start letting any team from Florida win any hockey titles. Then came Tampa Bay. I was wrong!
I told everyone at work that Menahga would walk back to the state baseball tournament! The defending Section 6 team had all the big dogs back and the deepest pitching staff in the area. Then came New York Mills. Always battling, making the defensive plays, coming up with big hits! I was wrong!
I really felt the Twins would win a third Central Title. And although they may, I thought they might run away and hide from the rest of the division. Then came Chicago. I was wrong.
I thought it would be a hot, dry summer. I was wrong.
I thought I would be wealthy by age 40! I was wrong.
I thought I would never weigh over 200 pounds. I was wrong!
I never thought I would have a pierced nipple or a tattoo in the swim-suit area. I was wrong!!
(Nah, just kidding!)
I do wonder how I can be wrong so often and still be employed, have a family, a home, own land and vote. It comes down to a couple of things...We live in a great country. You cannot predict sports. And life is a completely uncharted experience.
Isn't it great?!
Of that I am sure I am NOT wrong!

Spring (?) Sports Update
I made a promise to myself that I would not write another article until the Timberwolves were out of the NBA playoffs...or the Vikings were ready to get started.
Well, the Wolves are finally eliminated from the never-ending story. On and on and on...the NBA and the NHL drags out their playoffs. The Timberwolves finally advanced past the first round and ended up playing pretty well against a future Hall of Fame team.
I felt with some of the personal problems the Lakers had shown this year, the Wolves might have a chance to knock them off. Not the case. Even the bench players proved to be too much for the Timberwolves, who still lack a strong center and a sniper that can cast in every open three they are presented with.
Kevin Garnett certainly played like the league MVP.
Look for the Lakers to dominate the Eastern Conference winner.
And just in case the Wolves had won, a new article was in order...the Vikings are back at it!
They opened a two-week developmental camp this week. Training camp is just two months away.
It's spring tournament time...
Mother nature is winning so far, but they will get games in where they can over the next couple of weeks. Check the SportsCow.com schedules to make sure you know when and where your teams will play.
Side note: Monica Stearns, a former Wadena-Deer Creek student-athlete that walked on as a pole vaulter for the University of Minnesota, recently earned a trip to the NCAA championships with a fifth place finish at the Midwest Region Championships in College Station, Texas.
Monica, a senior at the U, will compete in the nationals in Austin, Texas this summer.
