Coach K All-Stars
College basketball breathed a sigh of relief this past week when 20-year veteran coach Mike Krzyzewski from Duke decided he didn't want to go and babysit the L.A. Lakers.

There is no doubt the Lakers will look different next year and Coach K decided the $6 million a year offer from the Lakers wasn't worth the effort.

Good for him! A three-time national champion, Coach K has run a program as clean as any in college basketball. He has been disappointed lately in the number of early jumps to the NBA, but as he said, his heart is in Duke and he went with his heart.

I like college basketball when it is played well...and on any given Saturday or Sunday you always knew the Coach K's teams would play good basketball.

I am glad he won't be another good or even great college coach that fails badly in the NBA. I think who ever ends up in L.A. will struggle to win with the same percentage that they have enjoyed in recent years.

The problem will become the coaches...and they will be gone.

Coach K made a good decision.

As we work around the mid-part of the major league baseball season, the Twins stay in contention for a third straight Central Division title. This year, Joe Nathan, the newest closer for the Twins, will represent the team at the All-Star game. Nathan has 23 saves this year and a very sharp 1.19 ERA.

I really felt Lew Ford should have had an opportunity this year. Jon Lewis Ford has been solid as a rock for the Twins with nine home runs, 41 RBI, and he can flash some pretty good leather at times too.

But as we see, the All-Star game often is the result of last year's efforts or an out-right popularity contest.

I will watch the Twins this summer and really, I guess, wait for the return of the Scarecrow...

That's right Dennis (Mega-Tron) Green will be in the Humphrey Hump on Saturday, August 14 when the Vikings play a preseason game with Arizona. I can't wait!

Careful...it could lead to the closing of all "all you can eat buffetts"!
